Tunisia has nominated its candidates to be part of the Moroccan Panel for Mother and Infant Health that expected to be formed soon. The panel comes to highlight Tunisia’s dedication to provide the best for women, especially after delivery.
The panel is part of a proposal tabled by Tunisia to develop health services provided to pregnant women as well as efforts to eliminate polio and improve vaccinations for infants and small children as well as pregnant women.
The panel has experts in mother and child health care facilities as members and pediatrics. The member will exchange experiences and discuss mechanisms to improve services provided in the region.
Brief about cooperation between Tunisia and UNICEF
Side talks between Minister of Health Mohammed Radha Kashrid and Representative of the UNICEF Jean-Michel Delmut about the cooperation in mother and child health services have helped in reviewing situations and pushing for new projects.
The Minister expressed his appreciation of the good ties with the UNICEF that he feels would contribute to the achievement of the UN millennium goals. He said that the coordination will result to better services for pregnant women to reduce pregnancy-related death and ensure that children receive health services.
Delmut expressed his happiness of the human developments in Tunisia and hailed the government efforts to provide better services for mothers and children.
Health of mother inmates in legal perspective
A new law in Tunisia is calling for separate detention centers for pregnant and lactating mothers. The law also calls to keep children with their mothers for only one year instead of three years in the previous law.
The law was passed by the parliament in June 2008 that gives more rights for mother inmates.
The law stress offering special living conditions for pregnant and lactating mothers, such as the guards should wear civilian clothes.
The government has allocated nine units for those women and more will be ready soon.
